Apache Spark is currently one of the hottest technologies in data science. That trend leads the Spark Summit 2015 to be one of the top conferences. Luckily, the conference organizers where kind enough to set up a free Spark Summit 2015 Livestream of the event. Here is a small glimpse of what will be covered:
- Updates from Matei Zaharia, creator of Spark
- Spark at NASA
- Innovation with Spark
- Three tracks of talks:
- Data Science
- And much, much more
The livestream begins today, June 15, 2015, and continues through Wednesday. It appears keynotes and all three tracks will be available via livestream. If you cannot physically make the event, then this is probably the next best thing.
Nando de Freitas taught a deep learning course at the University of Oxford. All of the videos are freely available. The playlist is a bit out of order, but starting with Lecture 1 is probably the best technique.
John Rauser from Pinterest gives one of the more popular talks from the Recent Strata Conference + Hadoop World. The following quote from his talk might peak your interest enough to get you to watch the entire video. Remember, he is speaking to a room with some of the leading data scientists in the world.
Many of the people in this audience are faking it….when it comes to statistics
Many other keynotes, talks, and interviews during the Strata + Hadoop World videos are available on the Youtube playlist.
Strata + Hadoop World 2014 is currently going on in New York City this week. Some of the keynotes will be live streamed this morning. The live streaming starts at 8:45 Eastern Standard Time. Also, keynotes will be live streamed tomorrow (Oct. 17, 2014) as well.
The keynotes are always great, and the line-up this year includes speakers from Cloudera, Pinterest, Platfora, Intel and others. So, if you did not make it to NYC, the live stream is the next best thing.
Enjoy the keynotes!
The 2013 Strata + Hadoop World Conference is currently going on in New York City. Many of the keynotes will have video streaming live on Tuesday and Wednesday (Oct 29 and 30). Watch and enjoy. If for some reason you cannot watch via the livestream, most of the keynotes are usually placed on Youtube shortly after the conference.
Hans Rosling does an excellent job of showing how “not boring” statistics can be. This is a great informative statistics video. It was originally posted at The Joy of Stats.
Yes, 2013 is the International Year of Statistics. Thus a video was made.
This is a video infographic about pizza delivery in Manhattan. This is another good way to make data tell a story.
This is a very quick and informative video about data science. What is data science? What makes a good data scientist?
DJ Patil does an excellent job answering both those questions.
Here are his answers for what makes a good data scientist:
- Story Telling
Jeff Hammerbacher, founder and Chief Scientist of Cloudera, gives a nice talk about data science. He explains what he has done in the past, and what he plans to do in the future.
It is the second video, I have posted recently, emphasizing the importance of data science for more than just advertising. Jeff is getting involved in a Medical School to see how data can help.
Note: The video is about 45 minutes, but it contains some really good information.
