Somewhat lost in the hype of Google’s Cloud Machine Learning announcement (which is itself neat), was the release of Google’s Public Data Sets.
I think this has been previously happening, but now Google has an official location for these public data sets stored in BigQuery. You can:
- Access and use the data in your applications
- Request Google to host your own public data set
It will be fun to watch this site expand with more public datasets. Happy Exploration!
A few weeks ago, I blogged about Quandl, a search engine for datasets. Well, they have just released an Excel add in that allows a person to pull a dataset from Quandl straight into an Excel spreadsheet. It is very new, so Quandl would appreciate your comments and any bugs you may find.
I just found this site a couple days ago. Quandl is a new startup that is a search engine for datasets. The site really has a lot of data (over 2 million datasets). Plus the data can be sorted, filtered, graphed, combined, and finally downloaded in many different formats (Excel, JSON, R, csv, XML). Most of the data is numerical and/or time series.
If you have been looking for some data to explore, Quandl may be a good place to look.
